Bisphenol A (BPA)
DESCRIPTION
Bisphenol A is a colorless solid material that is soluble in organic solvents, but poorly soluble in water. BPA is a major precursor for production of plastics, polycarbonates as well as epoxy resin. It serves as a building block for the production of polymer plastics and coatings.
PRODUCT GROUP
- Monomers, Building Blocks & Intermediates
SYNONYMS
BPA, p,p-Isopropylidenebisphenol,
2,2-Bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane
MAJOR APPLICATIONS
BPA is starting monomer (intermediate) for Polycarbonate (65% of applications), as a key monomer in production of Epoxy resins (30% of applications), for modification of epoxy resins, for production of epoxy hardeners/cross linkers and adducts; for modification of unsaturated polyester resin (UPR) and phenol resins; and last but not the least for production of polysulfones and polyether ketones .It is also used as an antioxidant in some plasticizers, and as a polymerization inhibitor in PVC.
As a preferred colour developer in carbonless copy paper and thermal paper
