Decabromodiphenyl Ethane (DBDPE)

DESCRIPTION

DBDPE is a highly effective flame retardant (FR) having a high content of aromatic bromine. Appears in form of powder or granules. DBDPE replaces DBDPO (Decabromodiphenyl Oxide) also known as DBDE (decabromodiphenyl ether). DBDPO (DBDE) is a harmful product and it is no longer used and produced in Europe. DBDPE is also technically better than DBDPO. It can be used in lighter/whiter formulations than DBDPO.

SYNONYMS

Decabromo-1,2-diphenylethane 1,2 Bis(pentabromophenyl)ethane; 1,1′-(ethane-1,2-diyl)bis[pentabromobenzene] ; 1,2,3,4,5-pentabromo-6-[2-(2,3,4,5,6-pentabromophenyl)ethyl]benzene

MAJOR APPLICATIONS

Cross-linked PE (XPE or XLPE) Engineering plastics like ABS, PA6, PA66, PC, PE,PET, high-impact PS (HIPS), PP (homopolymers and copolymers), PBT Elastomers Polyester (UP) and epoxy resins The plastic parts manufactured from a) are those with higher technical performance used in the fields of automotive, electrical/electronics, machine building, construction, etc. To enhance their properties they can be reinforced by fibers and fillers. Outstanding application properties of DBDPE are: -high thermal stability, therefore favoured for plastics processed at high temperatures -resistance to yellowing at high temperatures -low blooming -good electrical insulating properties -as polymer it is non-blooming -insoluble in water and presents no bioaccumulation or dioxin/furan concerns -suitable for use in systems where recycling is anticipated -not acutely toxic and teratogenic, nor harmful to the environment -can be used in formulation of products meeting European dioxin ordinances. Frequently used together with synergist antimony trioxyde.
