Monopropyleneglycol (MPGI)

DESCRIPTION

Propylene Glycol Industrial Grade (PGI) is produced by the high temperature and pressure hydrolysis of Propylene Oxide (PO) with excess water. PGI is a distilled material of greater than 99.50% purity.

PRODUCT GROUP

SYNONYMS

Propylene glycol, PG, propan1, 2diol and MPG

MAJOR APPLICATIONS

PGI is used for manufacturing high performance unsaturated polyester resins, which are used in applications such as reinforced plastic laminates for marine construction, gel coats, sheet molding compounds(SMC) for the automobile and transportation industries, electrical components. PGI with low freezing point has heat transfer properties, low vapor pressure and is therefore used as coolants and antifreeze. It is used in protecting rupture of pipes. PGI has low freezing point, low toxicity, biodegradability, low corrosive nature to metal, low flammability, therefore it is used as Aircraft deicing fluid. PGI is an important solvent for water based paints, and therefore used as an intermediate in the production of alkyd resins for paints and varnishes.
